AHA 'Essences' Video
This video captures the "essence" of the American Heart Association's work to promote healthier lifestyles and greater cardiovascular awareness.
Mission, 10-Year Impact Goal and Strategic Driving Force
By the year 2010, the American Stroke Association will reduce stroke and risk of stroke by 25 percent through a variety of collaborative ventures and volunteer commitments at the local and national levels.
This impact goal will be accomplished by the American Stroke Association distinguishing itself as the leader in providing effective, credible information for professional, patient and general public audiences, with specific emphasis on those at greatest risk. This was established as the strategic driving force of the American Stroke Association by a national panel of experts who reviewed the latest epidemiological studies identifying the most effective intervention stages to impact stroke-related morbidity, mortality and disabilities.
Vision Statement
We envision a world where stroke is minimized and ultimately eliminated as a major health problem. We look forward to a world where risk factors are reduced and rapid treatment is obtained. We strive to change the landscape of healthcare delivery so that optimal care and maximum recovery are achieved for those who do suffer a stroke.
What We're Doing
The American Stroke Association is a division of the American Heart Association that focuses on reducing risk, disability and death from stroke through research, education, fund raising and advocacy. The American Heart Association created the American Stroke Association after many years of increasing emphasis on stroke. We spend more money on stroke research and programs than any other organization except the federal government.
The American Heart Association views stroke as a strategic priority because of its significant impact on the American public. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and a major cause of serious, long-term disability.
On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds. Someone dies of a stroke every 3 to 4 minutes.
The American Stroke Association offers a wide array of programs, products and services, from patient education materials to scientific statements.
