Stroke Family Warmline

The Warmline connects stroke survivors and their families with an ASA team member who can provide support, helpful information or just a listening ear. Although everyone at the ASA's national call center is qualified to answer questions about stroke, the Warmline team members have some particularly special experience; either they are stroke survivors themselves or have a family member who is.

When Warmline team member Dan Rodriguez went to work for the American Heart Association and overheard call center operators handling stroke calls, his compassion was ignited. He knew he could be a lifeline with his first-hand knowledge of this crisis and the long-term toll stroke can take on a family. Dan cared for his wife throughout two frightening strokes and the aftermath of recovering from both episodes. Dan's experience offers valuable encouragement to the callers on the other end of the line.

Another Warmline team member, Norman Marshall, suffered a hemorrhagic stroke at age 30. After extensive rehab and a year of living with his brother, Norman eventually moved out and was able to take care of himself again. Norman's own journey to recovery gives him the privilege of sharing hope. As Norman says often, "There is life after stroke."
