Agenda

The people that are regular members of our group have survived brain injuries from a wide variety of causes, lived with the consequences for a number of years, and are able to offer valuable feedback or accommodation strategies to one another. Regarding the particulars on how the group operates: the facilitator - Mark Condon ꟷ a brain injury survivor himself, does not have a set agenda that is followed, nor does he operate from a specific format ꟷ other than emphasizing communication and social skill building (an important component of life post-injury).When someone brings up a particular difficult issue/or a positive break through that he or she needs help with/or wants to talk about, that becomes the focus of our conversation. The group has been most helpful when each of us talk about what has/has not helped with a particular aspect of life with a brain injury; talks about something important to them (politics excluded – we do not talk politics) or whatever that brings them joy; identify good problem-solving strategies; give doctors/therapists referrals; or share about helpful local programs and resources.

Notes

BIAC's Denver Central BI Support Group is designed to create a simple venue where survivors of a brain injury can come together with other survivors, their families, friends, and care-partners, for mutual support on their rehabilitation journeys and for the benefit of the total group.  Our group consistently creates a positive environment for developing social skills, enhancing communication abilities, learning self-advocacy strategies, pro-active rehabilitation therapies, initiating friendships, and promoting public awareness with community involvement.
